How the Belt Accumulator Works

During normal operation, the conveyor belt transports the web at line speed with zero tension, ensuring the material remains undisturbed. When accumulation is required:

  • The lower belt stops, creating a stable receiving surface
  • The nose of the upper belt retracts, allowing the web to fold gently onto the lower belt
  • The relative speed of the upper belt determines the accumulation factor

Typical accumulation factors range from 4:1 to 25:1, with even higher ratios achievable for extremely thin or lightweight nonwovens.

When the winder restarts, the upper belt automatically advances, matching the winder speed and releasing the accumulated material smoothly and evenly.
